Heterobranchia Burmeister, 1837

Specie comunissima lungo tutto il litorale del Salento, a bassa profondità. Questa specie di Pleurobranchida è munita di una piccolissima conchiglia interna. (3-5mm)

E' possibile osservare una notevole varibilità cromatica, da esemplari rosso, rosso arancio, gialli molto chiari fino a sembrare bianchi, ma gli esemplari appartengono alla stessa specie.

Gli unici modi per distinguerla da Berthella aurantiaca (Risso, 1818) sono:

Very common species along the entire coast of Salento, at low depth. This species of Pleurobranchida has a very small internal shell. (3-5mm). It is possible to observe a remarkable chromatic variability, from red, orange red, very light yellow specimens to appear white, but the specimens belong to the same species.

The only ways to distinguish it from Berthella aurantiaca (Risso, 1818) are:

the observation of the inner shell which in B. aurantiaca is much larger, the study of the radula and the genetics of the species.

Specie di dimensioni molto ridotte, a malapena supera 1 centimetro di lunghezza.
