Heterobranchia Burmeister, 1837 - Suborder Cladobranchia

Una specie decisamente non comune o rara. Esemplari ci sono noti sia dal Mar Piccolo(Taranto, Italy) come mostra la foto di Gianni Colucci che da S. Maria al Bagno (Lecce, Italy), come illustrato dalle foto di Cataldo Licchelli.

Come può essere facilmente verificabile gli esemplari Atlantici (Topotipici) presentano sul dorso una macchiettatura rossiccia che gli esemplari del Salento non presentano. Naturalmente potrebbe essere un motivo di diversità morfologica, pertanto in attesa di poter verificare geneticamente queste differenze manteniamo la formula dubitativa.

A decidedly uncommon or rare species. Specimens are known to us both from the Mar Piccolo (Taranto, Italy) as shown in the photo by Gianni Colucci and from S. Maria al Bagno (Lecce, Italy), as illustrated by the photos of Cataldo Licchelli.

We attribute these specimens from the Ionian side of the Salento peninsula to this species with a dubious formula.
As can be easily verified, the Atlantic specimens (Topotypical) have a reddish speckling on the back that the Salento specimens do not have. Of course it could be a reason for morphological diversity, therefore, while waiting to be able to genetically verify these differences, we keep the dubitative formula
